Why Gutter Cleaning Is Important

Many people go years without giving their gutters any consideration, and possibly see no ill effects.

However, it’s when a problem does arise that people realise they should have thought about their gutters in the same way that they think about their windows. The same goes for soffits, fascias, downpipes and barge boards.

All of these areas of the roofline and rainwater drainage system can suffer from a build up of dirt and grime and eventually look unsightly, but worse, clogged gutters mean water backs up and soaks the very parts of your home that they’re supposed to keep as dry as possible.

How Often Should Gutters Be Cleaned?

It’s an easy question to ask, but a difficult one to give a universal answer to. Let’s explain why.

If you live in an area with a lot of trees, leaves will find their way onto your roof in the autumn and many will end up in your home’s guttering. On the other hand, if you’re in an inner city area with little to no green space, that’s unlikely to be an issue.

Of course, densely populated areas may be thin on trees, but they do suffer from a lot of dirt and pollution, things that quietly build up over time as small particles settle from the air.

These differences between locations and homes affect how often gutter cleaning is required to keep the rainwater flowing away.

At the very least, consider an annual clean, and any expert worth his salt will advise you if more frequent visits would be a good idea.
